How can I increase your chances of getting a grant?

Many organizations that offer grants receive numerous applications and proposals. Before spending a lot of time on an application, make sure that you are eligible and meet the requirements of that particular agency. Then be sure to follow all directions and include the requested forms. The websites below provide guidance to help you start applying for grants.

Learn how to write grant proposals. The Foundation Center offers a free online
Proposal Writing Short Course. For more information, click here.

Research the Agency. To better develop a grant proposal, search a department or agency's
Home Page to learn more about its programs and objectives. You can find information
on government agencies using the A-Z Index of U.S. Government Departments
and Agencies
website.

Avoid scams while searching for grants. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
warns consumers to beware of paying "processing fees" for information that is available free
to the public. Ads claiming federal grants are available for home repairs, home business,
unpaid bills, or other personal expenses are often a scam. For more information,
